AP: Toyota Finds Fix For Gas Pedal Defect
by The Associated Press

Business

The Toyota company is figuring out how to fix the accelerator defect from the new line of cars that were introduced. Many people are outraged by the defect. Many accidents have already taken place due to the disfunction. The company sent a memo regarding a "remedy", but did not present a solution to repair the trucks. The company that makes the pedals say that the pedals rarely stick. Earlier this week, Toyota stopped the production of the 8 models, including the "top-selling Camry mid size sedan". A recall has been called for 2.4 million cars and trucks in the the U.S., Europe and China. A second meeting is going to be about investigating the Toyota's accelerator pedal systems, scheduled on February 4th.

This is an extraordinary mistake on Toyota's part. The possibilites, in my opinion, could be that they didn't test out the vehicles enough in order to ensure the safety of anyone that purchased them. This is very big news for the future, because Toyota spans out to many parts of the world, and everyone can be in danger of driving the new Toyota models. Will they fix it? >:/

Donations pour in for Dallas police officer with cancer

By TANYA EISERER / The Dallas Morning News
Local News

Sargent Eply, a 34 year old police officer and a father of three, was diagnosed with a rare tongue cancer, facing "weeks of grueling radiation and kemotherapy". This left the family without a paycheck and piles of medical bills. ON December 24th, The Dallas Morning News written an article about the police officer. After that, donations started pouring in for the Assist The Officer Foundation. The total came up to $70,000, along with an extra $25,160 from the Rotary Club of Dallas. The wife spoke on behalf of the police officer, saying
"I'm just at a loss for words". The check for almost $100,000 will be presented to the Epleys at a Dallas ceremony.

If $100,000 could be raised for this one man during a touching story, why can't more money be raised for other things? There's plenty of other problems out there that can be fixed by donating to the right organization, and this is a great example. The reporter was being very sincere with her words, showing the generosity of the public and the gratefulness of the wife of the cancer patient. I believe that doctors are examining the police officer, mostly due to the fact that he doesn't use tobacco products. The theory, in my opinion, is that cancer can be hereditary. Doctors are still checking the patient. High hopes for him. ^.^
